Description:

Offered in this online estate sale is a bronze Moroccan falus coin, a small-denomination copper or bronze coin used for everyday transactions in the Kingdom of Morocco. Based on design, fabric, and symbolism, this coin is likely dated to the late 18th to mid-19th century (circa 1792–1873 CE).

The obverse features a hexagram commonly referred to as the “Seal of Solomon,” a symbol historically used throughout the Islamic world for protection, authority, and legitimacy, particularly in North African and Moroccan coinage. The reverse displays Arabic script, now largely worn, consistent with prolonged circulation.

Falūs coins were widely used in daily commerce and were often struck in bronze or copper with relatively crude dies, resulting in irregular shapes and heavy wear. This example shows significant circulation wear, surface corrosion, and age-related patina, all consistent with authentic use during the period.

This piece is offered as found from a private estate and has not been professionally graded or authenticated. It is well suited for collectors of Islamic coinage, North African history, Moroccan numismatics, and world copper coins.

Highlights

  • Bronze Moroccan falus (small-denomination coin)

  • Kingdom of Morocco, circa 1792–1873 CE

  • Prominent Seal of Solomon (hexagram) motif

  • Arabic script on reverse (worn)

  • Islamic North African coinage

  • Heavy circulation wear and aged patina

  • Strong historical and educational appeal
