Interesting WWII-era U.S. coin lot featuring 1943-S Mercury Silver Dimes, including examples labeled SMS (Special Mint Strike) and Large “S” mintmark variety. These historic coins were struck during the height of World War II and remain popular with collectors of Mercury dimes, U.S. silver coinage, and mintmark varieties.
The Mercury dime (Winged Liberty Head) series, designed by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, was minted from 1916–1945 and is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful coins ever produced by the United States Mint.
This estate lot includes:
-
1943-S Mercury Silver Dime – SMS labeled
-
1943-S Mercury Silver Dime – Large “S” mintmark variety
-
Additional Mercury dime example (see photos)
All Mercury dimes are struck in 90% silver, giving them both numismatic and precious metal value. Coins from the San Francisco Mint (“S” mintmark) are particularly desirable for collectors assembling complete Mercury dime sets.
These coins are housed in protective 2×2 holders and represent a nice opportunity for coin collectors, Mercury dime enthusiasts, or silver coin investors to add classic mid-20th-century U.S. coinage to their collection.
