Description:

A set of five decorative blown glass orbs featuring black and white swirl patterns. Each piece is spherical with a small loop on top for hanging, showcasing intricate glasswork design. These items are vintage, suitable for use as ornamental display or collector pieces.

Witch balls are hollow glass spheres, typically about the size of a small grapefruit, that originated in England in the mid-17th century.  They were traditionally hung in windows to ward off evil spirits, witchcraft, and bad luck.  The swirling colors and patterns were believed to attract and trap negative energy, while the glass itself was thought to reflect evil back at its source.

While their origins are rooted in folklore and superstition, witch balls evolved into decorative art objects.  Modern interpretations often feature vibrant colors and intricate designs, made by skilled glassblowers.  They are collected for their aesthetic appeal and the craftsmanship involved in their creation, serving as both a nod to historical tradition and a beautiful addition to home decor.
