Exceptional 1800s Victorian Hairwork "Balloon" Necklace with Cross Pendant & 10k Gold Fittings.

This is late-nineteenth-century mourning necklace and cross that has been expertly fashioned out of human hair. These mourning pieces were a memento of a loved one that had passed away and were made by commissioned hair artist and were worn as a form of sentiment for the deceased. This mourning practice saw popularity through Queen Victoria when seen wearing hair jewelry that incorporated locks of her husband's hair whose death was in 1859. 

Unlike other natural materials hair does not decay with passing of time and can last for hundreds or thousands of years!
