She was a gifted mathematician, astronomer, scientist, author, instrument maker, teacher and businesswoman. She founded a "Nautical Academy" to teach young seaman who aspired for a career at sea. Some of her instruments are featured in the British National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. Some of her book titles include, "Lunar Tables" (1833), "Principles of Navigation Simplified, "An Epitome of Navigation and Nautical Astronomy" (1842), etc. A book by John. S.
